A Light in the Dark is a visual novel that launched on June 15, 2018. After release, the developers delivered on their Kickstarter promise of a new epilogue ending, which shipped as a free update on June 24, 2019. Several years later, on November 15, 2023, the game received a substantial update adding full Japanese voice acting from professional voice actresses — a feature that had been in development since the console port and announced in April 2023. All three DLC items (the Original Soundtrack, Prologue Manga, and Art Book) have been released. No further content has been announced for this game since the Japanese voice update in November 2023, and the developer has not communicated any plans for additional updates. More recent news posts on this page promote separate, unrelated games from the same studio (Alice's World and Beyond the Curtains) and do not reference any future content for A Light in the Dark itself. The game appears to be a fully complete, finished product.

Hao-Chen Jiang did not understand what it was when he opened his eyes. Before him was a dim and dreary room that he had not seen before. Trying to get up to turn on the lights, he finds that his arms are tied behind him and that is when he realizes that he's been kidnapped. It is then that a mysterious girl appears before him and with a look of disdain tells him that he's been kidnapped and unless his family agrees to pay a ransom he has no chance to escape. But perhaps there is more to this than just money...
