Evaluation

Acan's Call: Act 1 launched on August 11, 2016 as an explicitly self-described proof-of-concept for a VR sword-fighting system, estimated at 10–15 minutes of play. The store description at launch referenced "upcoming episodes" that would be bigger in scope and asked players for feedback to help develop the full game. However, the developer's communication history tells a clear story of abandonware. After the launch patch in August 2016, the developer went silent for approximately 1.5 years before returning on May 17, 2018 with a final bug-fix patch (Patch #2). In that post, the developer acknowledged the long gap, fixed VR hardware compatibility, and simplified game design — but notably made no mention of any planned future episodes or continued development. The tone was one of closure: thanking the community for their support and expressing hope that the game would serve as a good VR introduction experience. There have been no developer communications of any kind since May 17, 2018 — more than eight years of silence as of June 2026. No DLC has been listed, no roadmap has been published, and no follow-up episodes have ever materialized. While the original store description mentioned future episodes, that promise was never formalized into announced or listed content, and the developer's subsequent silence strongly indicates those plans were abandoned. The May 17, 2018 patch represents the last meaningful developer action on this title, and it functioned as a maintenance wrap-up rather than a stepping stone to further content.
