AFTERBURN launched on December 11, 2019 and received a series of feature updates and balance patches through its early life. By October 2020, the developer publicly stated they were shifting focus to a sequel — which eventually launched as TOP DOG in August 2022. Following TOP DOG's release, AFTERBURN received two minor tweaking patches in September and November 2022 (v1.38 and v1.39), which appear to be the final substantive updates to the game. The most recent developer communication was a Unity engine security patch on October 4, 2025, which is a routine maintenance fix rather than a sign of new content development. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no announced future content, and no roadmap. The developer's creative energy moved on to TOP DOG years ago. The game launched as a complete arcade experience and has been in a maintenance-only state since late 2022.
