Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition has been in sustained active development since its October 2021 launch, with a consistent cadence of major paid expansions and regular seasonal updates throughout its lifetime.
Major paid expansions have shipped at a steady pace: The Sultans Ascend on November 14, 2023; Knights of Cross and Rose on April 8, 2025; Dynasties of the East on November 4, 2025; and Yue Fei's Legacy on May 7, 2026. Between these, the team has also delivered frequent feature patches, ranked seasons, and rotating events roughly every 2–3 months.
Looking ahead, Raiders of the North — which adds the Vikings and Scots civilizations, four new Crucible missions, a new challenge mode, two-player co-op in the Crucible, and two new biomes — was officially announced on June 7, 2026, spotlighted at the Xbox Showcase, and confirmed for Fall 2026 in the July 30, 2026 developer recap post. It is listed on the store as unreleased with no specific date. The developer's February 4, 2026 patch post explicitly called out two planned DLCs for 2026; Yue Fei's Legacy was the first, and Raiders of the North is the second. The most recent developer communication was on July 30, 2026, just 19 days before today's assessment date, confirming the expansion is still on track.
