Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition launched on October 15, 2020 and has received multiple paid expansions over the years, including The African Royals (August 2021), the United States Civilization (April 2021), the Mexico Civilization (December 2021), and Knights of the Mediterranean (May 2022). In January 2025, World's Edge announced that a previously teased DLC had been cancelled, and indicated that while they would continue maintaining servers and supporting the game, no new content was being developed at that time. That situation changed significantly in mid-2026. On July 23, 2026, the developer announced The Baltic Powers — a brand-new expansion coming September 10, 2026. The expansion introduces two new European civilizations (the Danes and the Poles), two new game modes (Regicide and Independence), over 25 new maps spanning the Baltic Sea to the Arctic, new challenge scenarios, and more than 50 hero customizations. An open beta launched alongside the announcement. On August 13, 2026, the developer published a detailed pre-order post confirming the September 10 launch date, and the DLC is currently listed as unreleased in the Steam store. A broader franchise update published July 30, 2026 also references The Baltic Powers explicitly, confirming it as part of the developer's active plans for the second half of 2026. The game's title includes "Definitive Edition," but this is a remaster branding established at launch — the game continues to receive new paid content, so it is not a complete, finished package in the way that a GOTY or Complete Edition would be.
