Evaluation

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront launched on June 11, 2021 and has received a sustained stream of paid DLC and major free updates ever since. Paid expansions include Talvisota (June 8, 2022), Scorched Earth (November 18, 2022), Liberation (November 29, 2023), Airborne (October 17, 2024), Jubilee and Supporter Pack (June 19, 2025), and Finest Hour — described by the developer as their largest DLC to date — on December 2, 2025. The base game has also grown through dozens of free updates covering new gameplay systems, AI overhauls, and content additions. On September 1, 2026, the developer announced the next paid DLC: "First to Fight," which adds Poland as a new playable faction. A detailed devblog on September 6, 2026 outlined the DLC's contents: an 11-mission single-player campaign, new Polish multiplayer units including cavalry, and a release alongside Content Update 7 — a major free update that will bring a large Conquest AI and systems overhaul, an Ostfront visual remaster, and additional German early-war equipment. On September 18, 2026, an open beta for Update 70 launched, delivering a major Conquest AI rebuild, and the full release followed on September 21, 2026, with a hotfix on September 24, 2026. The developer's December 18, 2025 post explicitly stated that "plans reach beyond 2026," and the September 6, 2026 devblog reiterated long-term interest in the Mediterranean theater and acknowledged community interest in the Pacific, while committing to European theaters for the foreseeable future. Development activity is continuous and well-documented, with no indication that further content is anything other than planned and in progress.

About this game

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront features the Eastern Front and its “Great Patriotic War” fought between the USSR and Germany. This RTS will take you from June 1941 until the end of the war in May 1945.

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront offers a choice of game modes including Singleplayer, dynamic campaign, PvE, PvP and co-op.

With its instantly switchable views, there’s something for every type of player. First person gunner views for all vehicles, third person views for vehicles and infantry, classic top-down direct control of a single unit or classic RTS top-down; they are all available and instantly switchable.

Conquest (dynamic campaign) mode offers singleplayer and co-op modes to play with your friends. Both modes allow you to compose your own army group, research new units and strategically advance in different paths to dominate the battlefield. The dynamic campaign can range from short to unlimited campaign lengths.

PvP/PvE offers a wide variety of maps from 1v1 to 4v4, and the use of “Doctrines”. These allow you to choose your own special units that fit your individual playstyle. The stage of the war (Early/Mid/Late) can be selected, to experience the evolution of equipment and vehicles as the conflict progressed.

Single player campaigns take place at historical locations, painstakingly recreated and immersive as hell.
