Air Defender launched into Early Access on November 28, 2025 and has been under intensive, sustained development ever since. ROTOR3 has published 18 updates through September 17, 2026 — a pace of roughly one update every 2–3 weeks — continuously expanding the game with new systems, gameplay mechanics, and simulation depth. Since the previous evaluation on September 14, 2026, three additional major updates have shipped in rapid succession. Version 0.8 (September 11, 2026), which the developer explicitly described as "the biggest update to Air Defender since release," brought a complete re-voice of all pilots and controllers, new visual identification procedures, real 1998 RAF squadron callsigns, formation intercept systems, and aircraft divert mechanics. Version 0.8.1.0 (September 14, 2026) followed with improvements to interceptor return-to-patrol behavior, enemy end-of-campaign persistence, and radio accuracy. Version 0.8.2.0 (September 17, 2026) added smarter game-opening pacing, unpredictable enemy behavior during intercepts (aircraft that can now refuse to comply), Russian pilot radio responses, and enemy tanker support that can be targeted to strip escort cover from incoming raids. The game remains at version 0.8 with no 1.0 release date announced. ROTOR3 has not communicated what content or milestones remain before the game leaves Early Access, but the update frequency and scope of recent releases make clear that development is actively continuing at a high pace.

Air Defender is a high-stakes, real-time strategy simulation that puts you in the command chair of a national Air Defence network. From a top-down strategic view, you are the unseen hand responsible for detecting, identifying, and intercepting airborne threats. This is not a dogfighting game; you are not a pilot. You are the commander with access to the capabilities of multiple roles in the bunker, and the fate of the nation rests on your split-second decisions.

Analyse radar returns, scramble your Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) fighters, and manage your assets to protect your airspace. Every choice matters, and the consequences of failure are devastating.
