大科学家 launched on Steam on January 12, 2025, and was made free-to-play approximately one week later (around January 20, 2025). In a post published on January 13, 2025, the developer (箱社) made a significant announcement: the game was originally conceived as the first half of a two-part story, but due to severe budget overruns and difficult industry conditions, development of the second part has been officially cancelled. The released version was adjusted to remove the connective content leading into the second game and was reworked to deliver as complete an experience as possible within those constraints. The developer explicitly stated the sequel's production has been formally terminated. The only post-launch update was a minor UI patch on January 20, 2025 (adding UI quality-of-life features), with no further developer communications since that date. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no announced future content, and the developer has communicated clearly that no further story content is coming. The game is a complete, finished visual novel as it currently stands.
