Evaluation
Artifact Foundry launched as a free-to-play card game by Valve, a reimagined version of the original Artifact. Throughout mid-to-late 2020, Valve maintained an active development cadence, shipping frequent feature patches and balance updates. On December 18, 2020, Valve published a "State of the Beta" post describing plans to enter a "tightening phase" focused on teaching, polishing, and growing the game — signaling continued but winding-down development rather than expansion.
After that, development activity dropped sharply. The final feature patch was published on March 4, 2021, and the last developer communication of any kind was a bug fix on March 11, 2021. There have been no developer posts, patches, or announcements of any kind since March 11, 2021 — over five years of complete silence as of June 2026.
The game had no pattern of major named content releases at any point (zero major expansions or DLC shipped), and no unreleased DLC exists on the store. The September 2020 roadmap outlined plans for tutorial improvements, expanded campaigns, and a draft mode, but those ambitions were never developed into shipped major content, and no follow-up communication reaffirmed them after early 2021. The roadmap's promises were partially addressed by smaller patches (a tutorial beta launched in December 2020, constructed matchmaking launched in September 2020) and can reasonably be considered abandoned rather than pending given five-plus years of silence.
With no developer communication since March 11, 2021, no unreleased DLC, no announced future content, and no established post-launch content cadence to suggest more is coming, the game is best understood as having reached its final state. Valve never officially announced the end of development, but the extended silence far exceeds any reasonable expectation of resumed activity.
