Astebreed was originally released in 2014 and received a major overhaul branded as the "Definitive Edition" in November 2017, which added Arrange Mode, new story episodes, new music, improved graphics, and other enhancements — matching the content on the store page today. The price was raised to $19.99 at that point to reflect the scope of the upgrade. All DLC (the Original Soundtrack) was released on November 6, 2017, alongside the Definitive Edition update. The developer has not announced any further content plans since then. The most recent developer communication was a technical maintenance update on March 31, 2026 (Ver. 3.03), which migrated the online ranking system to Steam servers — a housekeeping change, not a content update. There is no evidence of any planned expansions, new DLC, or additional development work beyond routine maintenance.

STORY
You play as Roy Becket, a young pilot with dreams of becoming as skilled as his adoptive father. When a galactic war against an ancient mechanical alien race reaches its boiling point, Roy is forced to spring into action and take control of an otherworldly bipedal war machine in hopes of saving what's left of humanity.
Joining Roy is a young girl who claims to have escaped the clutches of the nefarious aliens. Forever altered through the horrible experiments to which she was subjected, she now possesses the very abilities humanity will need to push back the Doomsday Clock.
Together, the pair must face an unrelenting army alone and reunite their shattered families.
The end of civilization as we know it is on the horizon. Between humanity and eradication stands Astebreed.
