Evaluation

Astro Lords: Oort Cloud is a free-to-play massively multiplayer strategy game that launched on September 29, 2015 and has operated as a live online service ever since. The game is built around persistent online asteroid bases, PvP combat, factions, ongoing in-game economies, and purchasable premium currency (deuterium) — all of which are designed to run continuously rather than reach a defined endpoint. The developer has maintained the game through multiple years of updates. Feature patches were posted in February 2019, April 2019, October 2019, and June 2021, covering new battle types, faction changes, fleet systems, and Starbase improvements. In March 2021, the team rebuilt the entire server infrastructure from scratch after a data center fire, explicitly stating their commitment to the game and plans to celebrate its 7th anniversary. That recovery post also acknowledged financial strain but framed it as a challenge to overcome with community support — not a shutdown notice. The most recent news posts (November 2025) are publisher-level announcements for other games under the same publisher umbrella (Conglomerate 5 / Valkyrie Initiative) and are not Astro Lords content updates. The last direct Astro Lords developer communication dates to October 2019 and June 2021, with the server restoration posts in March 2021 being the most recent game-specific communications. Because the game is a free-to-play MMO with real-money purchases and an online-only structure, it is by design a live service — there is no "finished" state to reach. All ten DLC packs (starter bundles and content packs) were released between 2015 and 2016 and are all available. The game continues to be purchasable and playable.
Evidence
Developer rebuilt the entire server infrastructure after a data center fire, restored nearly all player data, and expressed intent to celebrate the game's upcoming 7th anniversary with further improvements. Requested community support via deuterium purchases to help cover losses.

About this game

Astro Lords: Oort Cloud is winner by Indie Game Cup 2015 in "Best Art" category.

Each player begins the game as an Astro Lord on their asteroid base. This base enables players to extract minerals and build factories, which will be used to produce ammunition and spare parts for their space ships. This base is the player’s primary stronghold: other Lords can raid it, but they won‘t be able to capture it. Players can also capture up to five additional asteroids, which will be used to extract minerals. But beware: the player will have to remain on the alert to keep other Lords from recapturing the asteroids.

Player bases are located on asteroids, which travel within the Oort Cloud. Once they’ve acquired the appropriate skills, players can control their asteroid’s movements.

Mass-combat enthusiasts will love the Arena: here, players can battle it out against alien races (AI) or other Astro Lord players. Those battles take place in real-time, which allows players to actively take part in the game instead of just having to wait for the completion of their building projects.

You will experience complete freedom of action and social interaction.

Become a worthy Astro Lord!
