Star Trek Online is a long-running free-to-play MMO that has been continuously updated since its Steam launch in January 2012. The game operates on a seasonal content model with major named updates shipping roughly every 4–8 months, each bringing new story episodes, Task Force Operations, limited-time events, and monetized content such as lockboxes and in-game store items. The update history through the period covered is consistent and ongoing: Both Worlds (January 2024), Unparalleled (May 2024), Unveiled (February 2025), Unleashed (September 2025), Corruption (February 17, 2026), and most recently Undiscovered, which was announced on June 25, 2026 and launched on PC on July 7, 2026. The Executive Producer's note accompanying the Undiscovered launch explicitly frames the new Deep Space Encounters feature as "an important experiment for STO's future" and invites players to "explore that undiscovered country — the future, with us." Studio leadership is actively engaged. In January 2026, returning CEO Jack Emmert published a letter reaffirming Arc Games' "full support" for ongoing development and welcoming both current and lapsed players back. In February 2026, the studio introduced Thomas Marrone as the new Executive Producer, whose stated focus is on "ensuring the game's longevity for many more years to come." This game is designed to run indefinitely, with no announced end to content development. The monetized seasonal content cycle is fundamental to how it operates.
