Evaluation

Audioshield launched on April 5, 2016 as a VR rhythm game by solo developer Dylan Fitterer. After release, the game received a solid run of updates: two major content drops in 2016 (the Videoshield Update in September 2016) and 2018 (the Fitness Update in October 2018), along with several feature patches and bug fixes throughout 2016–2019. The most recent activity from the developer was a bug fix on November 14, 2019 to improve support for Vive Cosmos headsets. Since then — nearly seven years as of June 2026 — there have been no further posts, announcements, or updates of any kind. There are no unreleased DLC items, no outstanding promises of future content, and no roadmap pointing to anything ahead. The developer has not made any explicit "this is our final update" statement, but the combination of a long, unbroken silence since November 14, 2019 and the absence of any communicated future plans makes it clear the game has reached a stable, finished state. It remains available for purchase and functions as a complete product.

"AudioShield -- a rhythm game -- is HTC Vive's killer app" (Jeff Grubb, VentureBeat)

Experience your entire music collection in VR. Audioshield puts you at the point of impact for every hit in your music. Beats glide in slowly for mellow parts of songs, then ramp up for intense parts of songs with cross-body, double-shield, and high-altitude hits.

Audioshield uses an advanced version of Audiosurf 2's music analysis system to sync with any song from your collection.

Every song has its own online leaderboard. Audioshield also supports local leaderboards to easily compete with friends during look-at-my-awesome-new-VR-system parties.

"Let's punch the hell out of music in virtual reality with Audioshield" (Polygon)
