AutoChess of Gensokyo has been in Early Access since August 28, 2021, and has maintained a consistent stream of developer activity throughout its lifespan. A significant developer communication on February 5, 2024 explained the game's development situation in detail: after the game's revenue fell well short of operating costs, a community member ("安老师SAMA") stepped in to co-fund continued development alongside the original studio. That post announced a major Season 2 update — including new characters, a reworked class-change system, and substantial balance overhauls — and committed to delivering it within roughly six months. On May 10, 2025, an announcement post described the "final S1 balance pass" and explicitly told players to look forward to the large upcoming Season 2 update. Further balance patches followed on May 11 and May 18, 2025, and the most recent developer post (version 2.1.8 balance patch) was published on June 16, 2025. As of October 1, 2026, the last developer communication was on June 16, 2025 — approximately 15 months ago. The game had been posting patches at a fairly regular cadence (multiple times per month in early-to-mid 2025), so this silence is notably longer than the established pattern. However, the promised Season 2 update was announced but has not been confirmed as shipped based on the available posts. The game remains listed as Early Access and purchasable, and there has been no developer statement indicating development has concluded or that the studio has shut down. Given the unusual community-funded development arrangement described in February 2024, some development slowdown is not unexpected, but the extended silence since June 2025 without a Season 2 delivery confirmation is worth noting.
