Evaluation

BLACKSHARD launched on April 7, 2025, followed by a flurry of hotfixes and quality-of-life updates in the weeks after release. The developer then shipped the "No-Self-Control Update" on December 1, 2025, which included an engine upgrade to Unreal 5.6, major optimizations, and additional hidden content in the Labyrinth — the last substantive update to the game itself. On January 14, 2026, Redlock Studio revealed HYPNOS, a spiritual successor to BLACKSHARD set in the same megastructure lore. On January 11, 2026, the developer had already signaled that a major announcement was coming, thanking the BLACKSHARD community for its support and "steady sales." A HYPNOS demo launched February 23, 2026, and HYPNOS entered Early Access on May 9, 2026. The developer's attention has fully shifted to HYPNOS. Notably, the September 2025 post mentioned console ports of BLACKSHARD in development for PlayStation and Xbox. However, there have been no follow-up communications about those ports since the January 2026 announcement pivot to HYPNOS — and the console port announcement predates both the HYPNOS reveal and the completed engine migration. While the console ports were once signaled, the developer has not reaffirmed them since pivoting to HYPNOS, and the January 2026 "new dawn" post framing HYPNOS as the next chapter suggests BLACKSHARD's development chapter is effectively closed. The only DLC listed is the soundtrack, which was released June 20, 2025. No unreleased DLC exists on the store. The store description contains no live-service language or promises of ongoing content. The game appears to have shipped as a complete narrative experience, with post-launch work focused on stability and polish. The December 1, 2025 update — the last substantive content addition — is the most defensible completion date.
Evidence
HYPNOS enters Early Access on Steam. Developer commits fully to HYPNOS, with a roadmap forthcoming. No mention of further BLACKSHARD updates.

About this game

BLACKSHARD is a first-person exploration game. Wander
through a strange megastructure, the Labyrinth, to unravel its
mysteries. Your behavior within the Labyrinth defines the
outcome of your journey.

BLACKSHARD is a visual and narrative experience, a dreamlike journey
into uncharted liminal spaces. You will roam strange places,
endless corridors and unreal architectures, encountering mysterious
figures that have been forgotten for ages...

What path will you take?

  • Explore a unique semi-open world. Find your own way through the
    Labyrinth.

  • Find shards of memory from those who came before. Accept the order of
things or choose a different path.

  • Interact with your environment. Transform the Labyrinth with
unspeakable powers, or preserve its cold complexity.

Beware. You were not made for such a journey.

"I waited for a time that cannot be told.

The Labyrinth is a dull, sterile and ordered space. It is the embodiment
of time and causality. The harbinger of the Tyranny of Fate.

I played my part. I watched over the Labyrinth. I resisted the whispers.
I did not intervene. I did not count the unclean numbers.

But the Sign promises. It offers."
