Blazing Sails launched out of Early Access on November 13, 2023. In May 2024, original developer Get Up Games stepped back and publisher Iceberg Interactive, along with lead developer Wolf, formally committed to continuing development — promising frequent updates and a planned Xbox release.
Since that handover, the team has delivered a steady stream of content: a Spring Cleaning / feature update (April 2024), a Halloween seasonal event with a new limited-time game mode (October 2024), and two new cosmetic DLC packs — the Crab Lord Pack and Conquistador Pack — both released on April 8, 2025. An April 11, 2025 news post explicitly stated the team was "hard at work patching sails and sharpening cutlasses for the next big update," while also teasing unspecified surprises ahead.
The game has maintained a pattern of major content drops roughly every six months since the Iceberg handover, alongside regular feature patches and bug fixes. The last confirmed developer communication was on April 11, 2025. As of today (September 17, 2026), that is approximately 17 months of silence — which does exceed the established ~6-month cadence between major releases. However, the April 2025 post was not a conclusion statement; it actively signaled continued development. Given the ongoing commitment stated by Iceberg Interactive and no indication of a studio shutdown or development halt, this leans toward a lull rather than abandonment, though the extended silence is worth noting. No developer statement has announced the end of updates.

Who knew being a pirate actually takes teamwork? Well, it does! Along with your fellow crew members you'll need to steer, repair and re-supply your ship while besieging enemy crews. Communication and cooperation are essential to secure a victory!
Choose your vessel!
A variety of ship types offer distinctly different play styles for your crew. The Brigantine is the classic - with a hull that can take a pounding and some serious firepower. The Junk Ship is smaller, faster and packs a front-facing cannon for daring head-on assaults! The Bomb Vessel is especially powerful at long distances with its unique mortar cannon. For the smaller crews there's a 2-player Sloop. But don't let its size fool you! The Sloop can easily go toe to toe with the bigger 4-player ships.

Change your playstyle based on the weapons you plunder. Take to the crow’s nest with your trusty sharpshooter, or board an enemy ship with the legendary life-stealing Sword of the Sea! Like something more explosive? Try the shoulder-cannon or fish-launcher. To each their own!
