Brain/Out is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that launched on February 24, 2017 and has received multiple major updates over the years, including new weapons, maps, game modes, outfits, and a full Battle Pass system (BRAIN/PASS) introduced in December 2021. The Battle Pass is a recurring, monetized content structure designed to deliver seasonal rewards on an ongoing basis — the kind of system that signals a game intended to run indefinitely.
However, the developer's communication history tells a complicated story. On October 27, 2019, the developer posted a notice saying regular updates would stop for an indefinite period. Development did resume, with a large update in October 2020 and the Battle Pass launch in December 2021. The most recent developer communication was on March 20, 2022, when the source code was released on GitHub — a post that explicitly stated "new development still going to be delivered here on Steam."
Despite that promise, no further updates, patch notes, or developer posts have appeared since March 20, 2022. This is over four years of silence as of June 2026, which stands in stark contrast to the active Battle Pass system that was introduced just months earlier. A live Battle Pass implies new seasons of content should have followed, but none have been announced or delivered. The combination of an ongoing seasonal structure with no evidence of any new seasons, and a developer who has been completely silent since March 2022, raises serious questions about whether active development is truly continuing.
Evidence
Developer open-sourced the game's code on GitHub and stated that 'new development still going to be delivered here on Steam.' This is the last known communication from the developer.
Update 1.9.8 introduced the BRAIN/PASS Battle Pass system, replacing the old time-limited event system with a seasonal monetized reward structure. This implies an ongoing, recurring content cycle.
