Captain Forever Trilogy launched on May 22, 2018, bundling three games in the Captain Forever series. In August 2022, developer Farbs surprised players by adding a beta branch to the game containing Captain Forever Universe — a long-in-development fourth game in the series, previously known as Captain Jameson or The Dawn Star. From August through November 2022, Farbs posted frequent updates (roughly weekly to monthly) shipping new features for the Universe beta: Update 15 on August 31, 15.1 on September 6, 15.2 on September 15, 15.3 on September 30, 15.4 on October 12, and 15.5/15.6 on November 10. On November 28, 2022, Farbs posted a detailed development update explaining two key plans: first, a major redesign of the game's universe topology to make multi-sector progression feel more meaningful; and second, an eventual spin-off of Captain Forever Universe as its own separate game on Steam. Farbs described being "genuinely excited about the future of Captain Forever." However, there have been no further communications from the developer since November 28, 2022 — a silence of over three and a half years as of June 2026. This sharply breaks from the very active update pattern that preceded it. The planned universe redesign was never announced as complete, and no standalone release of Captain Forever Universe has been confirmed. It is currently unknown whether development is continuing, has been indefinitely paused, or has been quietly abandoned.

About this game

In Captain Forever you build spaceships while you are flying them. There's no cumbersome editor. Just blast an enemy ship apart, grab a piece with your mouse, and bolt it to your ship. Done. What's more, everything is physically simulated so ship design has a huge impact on flight characteristics and combat capability.

Captain Forever Trilogy includes the games Captain Forever, Captain Successor, and Captain Impostor. Forever is the original, award winning game. It's vanilla. Successor adds tons of new modules and ship types. It's a whole ice-cream shop. Impostor blows the formula apart by allowing you to instantly clone any of the game's enormous, fantastical ships. It's an all in ice-cream shop food fight.
