Evaluation

Colonize launched its 1.0 version on February 4, 2026. At launch, the developer described it as a finished project and indicated they intended to move on to a new game. However, the developer reversed course on June 17, 2026, publishing an announcement titled "We Are Returning to Colonize" that committed to a major update including a new Boston map, combat mechanics work, a church building, and quality-of-life improvements drawn from player feedback. Since that announcement, the developer has been very active. Version 1.1.0 shipped on June 19, 2026 — just two days after the announcement — adding the promised church building, along with bug fixes and improvements. Version 1.1.1 followed on July 1, 2026, and version 1.1.3 on July 23, 2026. The most recent update, v1.2.0, shipped on August 12, 2026, bringing over 40 new AI-driven hint interactions, 22 new language localizations, status icon systems for buildings and citizens, and additional bug fixes and improvements. This represents a sustained and active development pattern since the June 17 announcement, with multiple meaningful updates shipping within a roughly two-month window. The Boston map and combat mechanics mentioned in the June 17 announcement have not yet appeared in any shipped update, suggesting development is still ongoing. The developer has not made any statement indicating this wave of post-launch support is coming to an end.
Evidence
v1.2.0 shipped with a major AI hint system (40+ situational hints), 22 new language localizations, status icons for buildings and citizens, and multiple bug fixes — the most substantial post-return update yet.

About this game

Colonize: A Peaceful 17th Century Settlement Builder

Build and manage a small colony in the New World during the 17th century. Colonize is a calm, no-combat settlement builder focused on resource management, production chains, trade, and keeping your people alive.

There are no armies, no enemies, and no warfare. Your challenge is the colony itself: food, shelter, economy, workers, weather, and the needs of your settlers.

Build. Manage. Survive.

Guide your settlement through three historical-inspired locations: Roanoke, Plymouth, and Bermuda. Each scenario offers different conditions, resources, and challenges.

Manage Resources

Gather raw materials, refine them into useful goods, and keep your colony supplied. Plan production chains carefully and make sure your people have what they need to survive and grow.

Trade with the Old World

Use trade ships to exchange goods with England. Expand your economy, bring in missing resources, and keep your settlement moving forward.

Play at Your Own Pace

Colonize is designed for players who enjoy slower, more thoughtful city-building without combat pressure. Adjust the difficulty to create a more relaxed or more demanding colony management experience.

A Note from the Developers: We are a small team dedicated to creating a focused, atmospheric building experience.
