Evaluation

Critical Annihilation has been in Early Access since February 12, 2016 and remains in that state today. The game is a twin-stick shooter built in voxels, sold as an unfinished product with the expectation of future development. The developer (Devoga) was actively working on the game from 2016 through early 2020, shipping several notable updates: a defense game mode (November 2016), local co-op support, a Steam Workshop integration with an in-game model editor (November 2017), and continued patches into 2020. The last known developer communication was a beta branch patch posted on February 12, 2020 — more than six years ago as of today. The game version is still labeled 0.8.x, indicating it has never reached a 1.0 release. There is no developer statement declaring the game complete, no final update announcement, and no roadmap or communication explaining the long silence. The game remains purchasable on Steam in its Early Access state, but with no updates or developer activity since February 12, 2020, it is unclear whether development is continuing or has effectively ceased without any official word.
Evidence
Last developer communication: a beta branch patch (v0.8.1284) adding controller support, 64-bit versions, and various fixes. No posts of any kind have followed.

About this game

Critical Annihilation is a Twin-Stick SHMUP (Shoot-em Up) made entirely out of tiny voxels. We take advantage of voxel technology to hype up the explosive gameplay. Everything is destructible to its core. As your home planet gets invaded by aliens you decide to take up arms with the rest of the planet and annihilate every single alien in site. As you progress in the game you'll bring yourself to whole new planets like the Moon and Mars until you've reached the aliens Mothership. Why exactly are these cliche aliens attacking your cliche planet in the good old fashion cliche way? It's for you to find out as you destroy every cube of their being. This is the same game played by popular youtubers Markiplier and JackSepticEye; Critical Mass. Now with updated art and updated code to bring you a more full, and action packed experience.
