Evaluation

Cruelty Squad launched in Early Access on January 4, 2021 and graduated to its 1.0 full release on June 15–16, 2021, adding a new level, ending, weapon, and other content at launch. The developer noted at that time that they would continue fixing bugs and adding things at a slower pace, but made no specific promises. The game received several updates in 2021 (bug fixes, the "Home Ownership Update" in April, and the 1.0 launch itself), but no major content updates appear to have shipped after June 2021. The only DLC ever released was the game's soundtrack, which came out in February 2021 during Early Access. On July 1, 2024, the developer posted an explicit statement confirming that Cruelty Squad is finished ("it's done") and that the studio's full attention is now on their next game, Psycho Patrol R. This is a clear, direct declaration that development on Cruelty Squad has concluded. The February 2025 news posts further reinforce this by promoting Cruelty Squad solely as a way to introduce players to Psycho Patrol R ahead of that game's Early Access launch. Given the developer's unambiguous statement that the game is complete and the absence of any post-June 2021 content updates, Cruelty Squad is a fully finished product with no further content planned.
Evidence
Developer explicitly states: 'Cruelty Squad hasn't released many updates anymore, that's because it's done' — confirming development is complete and the studio has moved on to a new game, Psycho Patrol R.

About this game

WARNING: This game is not recommended for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Cruelty Squad is a tactical first person shooter set in the hardcore gig economy of corporate liquidations. You're an emotionally dead combat-substance fueled grunt of Cruelty Squad, a depraved subsidiary company tasked with performing wetworks for its host conglomerate. Will you make the Corporate Arch Demoness proud or succumb to bitter tears of failure?

  • Highly kinematic tactical gameplay using varied weapons such as the flechette shotgun, silenced 10mm pistol, radiation emitter, dart gun, corrosive gas launcher and more.

  • No handholding!

  • All of the missions have multiple viable approaches and routes. Plan out your equipment loadout to gain a tactical advantage. Choose between non-lethal and lethal options. Throw toilet bowls at enemies.

  • Fight and sneak through offices, suburbs, police stations and secret compounds. Find and unlock hidden equipment and levels.

  • Open objective based gameplay, in each mission your goal is to kill or destroy your targets before heading for the exit.

  • Revisit earlier missions and try to beat your best time. Can you S-rank all of the missions?

  • Enemies including private security, cops, psycho freaks, flower hybrids, swamp cultists and mutant dogs.

  • Talk to NPCs and figure out the mysteries of the world.

  • Advanced death mechanics.

  • Stock and organ market simulation.

  • Punishment mode.
