Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals launched on November 2, 2020 and has maintained a consistent pattern of content updates ever since. The game has received eight major content releases over its lifetime, including the Monstrum DLC (December 21, 2020), the Elementary Evil Update (November 28, 2020), the UK Creator DLC (April 30, 2021), the Crazy Carnevil map (January 15, 2022), the Poppy Playtime Panic DLC (December 22, 2023), the House of Ashes DLC (February 16, 2024), the US Creator Pack (March 22, 2024), and the Coma 2: Vicious Sisters DLC (March 1, 2025). Beyond major content, the developer has continued shipping feature patches and bug fixes throughout — most recently adding a new Solo Play mode on June 12, 2026. Notably, the House of Ashes DLC was retired from Steam on May 11, 2026 due to a licensing term ending, though it remains available on consoles. Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals is a multiplayer horror game where players take on the role of monsters and mortals from the Dark Deception universe (and others) and battle each other in nightmarish mazes. Some mazes will look familiar to Dark Deception fans, but many will be completely new! Monsters & Mortals has multiple gameplay modes to play with your friends:
1. Maze Escape: (4 v 2) Four mortals must collect the required number of shards to summon the portal & escape, while two monsters seek to stop or kill them before the time expires.
2. Shard Mayhem: Monsters only mode. 6 players compete against one another in a free for all to collect the most shards in the time limit provided. Shards spawn in waves and can be stolen from other players by attacking or killing them.
3. Soul Collection: 6 Mortals compete for shards in order to save their own soul. At the end of each shard wave, Malak will come for the player with the fewest shards and take their soul. They will become a monster and must hunt down the remaining mortal survivors. In the end, only one mortal will win the right to keep their soul.
