Dark Swords

Dark Swords is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online RPG that first launched in 2004 and arrived on Steam in June 2019. The game is built around a live service model featuring premium subscriptions (PvM and PvP tiers), in-game currencies purchased with real money (Platinum and Palladium), and a persistent online world — all hallmarks of a game designed to operate indefinitely rather than reach a defined endpoint. The developer, High Tower Entertainment, has maintained a consistent stream of updates. A major world overhaul shipped in November 2020, introducing an entirely new map layout and kingdoms. Feature patches have continued at a steady pace, with updates landing in December 2025, February 2026, March 2026, May 2026, and June 2026. Most recently, on October 1, 2026, the developer shipped two new updates: a feature patch introducing territorial control coloring for alliances on the world map and expanded Hero Arena scheduling, alongside a client update (v.4.0.9.1) with significant performance improvements, new region control display support, and other enhancements. The game shows no signs of slowing down. There is no indication from the developer of any plans to shut down or conclude development.
