Evaluation

Death Squared launched on March 13, 2017 and has received a handful of post-launch content drops over the years: a feature patch in October 2017, a free major update in October 2019 (15 new vault levels, challenge modes, camera rotation), and then a long quiet period with only bug fixes in early 2021. After nearly six years of silence, the developer shipped 42 new free two-player levels on May 12, 2025, framing it as an experiment to gauge community interest and test the waters for a possible Death Squared 2. The May 2025 post mentioned the possibility of additional free 4-player levels "if this goes well" — which was a conditional, speculative remark rather than a firm commitment. As of today, September 24, 2026, more than 16 months have passed since that update with no follow-up announcement, no additional content, and no developer communication. The two major content releases in the game's history (October 2019 and May 2025) were separated by nearly six years. Given that 16 months have elapsed since the last update with no signal of further content, and the developer's own framing was experimental rather than a formal roadmap commitment, the conditional mention of 4-player levels does not constitute a standing announced commitment. The game's content development appears to have concluded with the May 2025 update.
Evidence
42 new free two-player levels shipped. Developer noted this was an experiment to test audience interest and gauge whether a Death Squared 2 is viable. Mentioned the possibility of future free 4-player levels 'if this goes well' — a conditional, speculative statement rather than a firm commitment.

OK back to the usual description;

Death Squared is a cooperative puzzle game for 1, 2 or 4 players, best enjoyed with loved ones who don't mind a little arguing for the greater good. It's quick to pick up and play. Fast to Fun and one of the few co-op puzzle games where anyone, young and old can play.

Prove your teamwork skills in Death Squared as you solve puzzles together or die trying! Each player needs to guide a robot to a colour-coded goal, but the path is beset with deadly traps and hazards. Teams of players will need close observation and communication to keep each other alive and discover a solution together.

Complete the main campaign with one or two players, then take a group into four-player Party Mode for the ultimate teamwork trial! For those that can't get enough, head to the 'Vault' to find extra experiments recommended only for the brave.

Features:

  • every level is a micro-journey of: surprise > discovery > mastery > success

  • Full voice acting by Ricepirate Mick. He's a legend

  • 80x puzzling levels in the Story levels

  • 40x 4 Player Party levels

  • 45x Vault Levels (too hard for the main game)

  • New for 2025: 42 new 2 Player levels in Extra Vault

Welcome to the bottom of the Steam page and since you're hear we can ramble on about the game

  • Is this a sokoban game? We'll in this game YOU are the blocks. But you also push around other blocks so I guess it is a sokoban puzzle game.

  • We even have a fully voiced, funny story that plays out throughout the 80 story levels. Will Dave make it through to the end?

  • Fun fact the game is called RORORORO (ロロロロ) in Japan which happens to be one of our most popular regions for the game. And the kanji ロ means mouth but also looks like our bots. And then ロロロロ could be also seen as "argument" so in hindsight we wish we called the game this from the start.

  • The game was made in Sydney Australia and started out as a Global Game Jam game. Hence the punny title which we just rolled with

  • We have the Nintendo Switch to thank for making this game not a complete financial failure but in the 7 years since release we've been able to maintain a constant trickle of sales and it's still been one of those "hidden gems" in the co-op puzzle genre.
