Evaluation

DeathWatchers launched into Early Access on July 12, 2024 and remains there. The game is developed by a solo developer at Swain Games, who has maintained a consistent and active update cadence throughout the game's life. Two major content updates have shipped since launch: version 0.9 on April 4, 2025 (adding a new "Clean Up" game mode, reworking three maps to a new vision-based entity system, and submitting Steam community items for approval) and version 0.91 on October 27, 2025 (adding the game's first seasonal Halloween event with collectible dolls, new entity models, and significant UI overhauls). The interval between these two major updates is approximately six months. Additionally, numerous feature patches and bug fixes have been posted throughout the game's life — including as recently as June 5, 2025. In the April 4, 2025 update post, the developer announced they are also developing a separate game (Miniature Painter Simulator) during breaks, but explicitly stated that "DeathWatchers will be the priority until it's complete" — directly signaling that a 1.0 full release is still ahead and that development on this game is ongoing. The version numbering (currently in the 0.9x range), the game's Early Access status on Steam, and the developer's own words all consistently point to a game that is still actively in development and working toward a future 1.0 release. The last recorded developer communication was on June 5, 2025. While this is over three months before today's date of September 24, 2026, the established cadence of major updates roughly every six months means the game is not yet outside its expected update window, and the developer has given no indication that development has ceased.
