Evaluation
Depth of Extinction launched on September 27, 2018 and received substantial post-launch development. The developer (HOF Studios, a solo developer) delivered multiple major rounds of updates culminating in the "Definitive Edition" overhaul published on April 2, 2020, which introduced stealth mechanics, a new Saboteur class, a rebuilt tutorial, and extensive rebalancing. A follow-up post on May 22, 2020 detailed further polish and announced the game's console release on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Notably, the April 2020 Definitive Edition post explicitly stated: "The team has already begun work on another game."
After the Definitive Edition, the developer continued shipping smaller updates — adding community-contributed language translations (Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese in April 2021; Icelandic in September 2021) and bug fixes. The last recorded developer communication is a bug fix patch on June 13, 2022, resolving a follower pathfinding issue.
No new content, updates, or developer communications have appeared since June 13, 2022 — now over four years ago. The only DLC ever listed is the soundtrack, released at launch. There are no unreleased DLC entries, no announced future content, and no outstanding developer commitments. The developer explicitly signaled in April 2020 that the studio had moved on to a new project. The sustained silence since June 2022, combined with that earlier statement of intent, indicates the game's content development is complete.
Evidence
Developer announced the Definitive Edition, a comprehensive overhaul of the game, and stated: 'The team has already begun work on another game.'
Bug fix patch (version 55.3) correcting a follower pathfinding issue and wrong ammo icons. This is the last recorded developer communication.
