Desktop Fishing launched on June 16, 2025 and received a healthy stream of updates through its first year — seasonal feature updates in summer, Halloween, and winter 2025, followed by achievement rebalancing patches in early 2026. On February 23, 2026, the developer posted a direct statement explaining that they could no longer financially sustain adding new content to Desktop Fishing, and that the studio was pivoting to focus on their other game, Frog Holm. This was an explicit announcement that development was ending. However, the story didn't stop there. Despite that statement, the developer went on to ship 10 new fish species across all biomes on May 4, 2026 (NEWS-2), and followed that with a minor bug fix on May 5, 2026 (NEWS-1). The May 4 content drop also noted that Frog Holm had been updated to version 1.1, suggesting that update may have been bundled as part of ongoing Frog Holm work rather than a full reversal of the February statement. Nonetheless, the developer did ship additional fish content after declaring development was ending. The May 5, 2026 bug fix is the most recent communication from the developer. No further content has been announced, no roadmap or DLC has been listed, and the February 2026 statement about financial constraints still stands as the developer's clearest position on the game's future. The post-statement content drop appears to have been a final goodwill addition rather than a resumption of ongoing development. The game should be considered complete, with the last content and communication arriving in early May 2026.
