DONG WU: ODYSSEY

Dong Wu: Odyssey launched on October 30, 2024 as a free-to-play online RPG with live-service elements including in-game purchases, seasonal events, and rotating content. The game received a steady stream of updates through mid-2025, including a major Chinese New Year content drop on January 23, 2025 and continued character additions and balance patches through July 2025. However, the game ran into serious financial difficulties. A developer statement on May 7, 2025 openly acknowledged the game had been operating at a loss, that only a small number of staff remained, and explicitly advised players not to continue spending money in the game. This was followed on November 11, 2025 by an announcement soliciting player feedback for a planned standalone (offline) version, signaling the developer had decided to pivot away from the online model. On December 5, 2025, the development team published an open letter confirming they would shut down the online version and convert the game into a standalone offline edition, removing all monetization and online features. Then on February 4, 2026, the developer published a formal delisting notice with a specific timeline: in-game purchases were closed on February 4, 2026; the game was to be removed from all storefronts by March 4, 2026; and game servers are scheduled to shut down on August 31, 2026. The store data confirms the game is no longer purchasable, consistent with the announced March 4, 2026 removal date. The developer has also announced plans to release a separate standalone version of the game as a distinct product, and paying players from the online version are being offered keys for that upcoming standalone release as compensation.
