Evaluation

Rune Coliseum entered Early Access on September 23, 2024 and remains under active development by solo developer Rafale Software (RWB). The game is clearly not finished — the developer has said so directly, and the update history confirms it. The biggest recent event was the release of Version 5 ("Death Match") on July 19, 2026, which the developer describes as "basically a brand-new game" — introducing a city map, 30 playable characters, a new base-building system, a complete weapons overhaul, spear and beast-enemy systems, gladiator interactions, a retirement/legacy mechanic, and much more. This was a massive undertaking: in a December 2025 status update, the developer noted the scope had grown from a planned 100 cards to over 800. Just six days after V5 launched, the developer posted an honest status update on July 25, 2026, acknowledging that V5 still has significant bugs and rough edges. They stated plainly: "Rune Coliseum will continue to be developed. Development is not over." They confirmed that the V4 legacy mode (Sacrifice Mode) will continue receiving updates, and that the team is working toward a future V6 milestone described as "a stable release" — which appears to be the target for something close to a 1.0 launch. Since V5's launch, the developer has continued shipping patches: a feature patch on July 23, 2026, another on July 30, 2026, and a significant icon overhaul patch on September 6, 2026, followed by a hotfix on September 15, 2026. The developer remains actively engaged with the game and its community. The game's 50-post news history includes 2 major content releases (Fighting Deck on June 28, 2025, and Version 5 on July 19, 2026), along with 15 feature patches and 30 bug fixes — a robust and consistent pattern of ongoing development throughout Early Access. With V6 explicitly flagged as a planned future milestone and the developer actively patching V5, there is substantial content and development work still ahead.
Evidence
Developer RWB posted a direct communication stating: 'Rune Coliseum will continue to be developed. Development is not over. Bugs will be fixed, the experience will be adjusted, and V4 mode will remain.' Also confirmed V4 Sacrifice Mode will receive ongoing updates and new weapon types.
