Evaluation
Donut Dodo launched on June 3, 2022 as a compact, self-contained arcade game. In a November 2024 post [NEWS-4], the developer explicitly described it as "content complete," signaling no further gameplay content was planned beyond some quality-of-life improvements that were placed on hold due to an engine upgrade failure.
That picture changed when the third-party leaderboard backend the game relied on shut down without warning on November 1, 2025 [NEWS-2], causing crashes on startup. The developer immediately began working on a replacement in-house leaderboard system.
Then in March 2026 [NEWS-1], the developer announced that the new leaderboard server was complete and in final testing, with the migration planned "likely before summer" — and that this update would also introduce a brand-new Endless Mode with its own dedicated leaderboard. This constitutes new gameplay content committed to by the developer.
As of today, October 1, 2026, no news post has appeared confirming that this update was delivered. The "before summer" window (approximately before June 2026) has passed without any follow-up communication. The announced Endless Mode and leaderboard migration remain unconfirmed as shipped, and the developer has gone silent since the March 2026 post. This raises genuine uncertainty about whether the promised update has been completed and released.
