Evaluation

Dragon Spirits launched on April 25, 2023, and received a healthy stream of patches and balance updates in the months following release. The developer has been transparent throughout about their plans: their focus shifted to Dragon Spirits 2, a sequel that released a free prologue on July 29, 2024 and its full version in September 2024. The most telling signal comes from the developer's own words. In the July 29, 2024 news post announcing the Dragon Spirits 2 prologue, they reflected on future plans: "I'll base the number of future updates on the situation post-release. It's just too much work to make a big dream game... I'd prefer to make some casual games." This signals a winding-down of ambitions for the original game. The most recent developer post for Dragon Spirits 1 is dated July 27, 2025, tagged as a development status update. It delivers a handful of bug fixes and a control adjustment, and closes with a personal note: "I'm currently developing small-scale projects for practice to improve my Unity skills." This strongly implies the developer has moved on from Dragon Spirits 1 and is working on other things — it reads as a maintenance patch rather than a signal of ongoing content development. There are no unreleased DLC entries, no announced future content for this game, no roadmap, and no sustained pattern of major content updates post-launch (only two major content releases are logged across the game's life, both of which relate to the DS2 sequel ecosystem rather than DS1 itself). The developer has not announced any further updates for Dragon Spirits 1, and the July 27, 2025 patch appears to be a final maintenance pass. The game launched as a complete, story-rich package and has been polished through patches. It is best understood as a finished product.
Evidence
Most recent developer post: a small bug fix and control adjustment patch, closing with the developer noting they are working on small-scale projects to improve their Unity skills — implying focus has moved away from Dragon Spirits 1.

About this game

While constantly working on a video game without any rest, a college student who's about to graduate quietly slipped into slumber several times.

His workmate, as well as his childhood best friend, advised him to take some decent sleep, but he simply wanted to get the game done before graduation to prove himself.

However, the mystery is that, in those lucid dreams, he found himself in the game he's been working on —— a fantasy world of Dragon Spirits.

His memory of the real world fades in and out among these dreams.

He found himself became as his younger self and met his childhood best friend again. They are all junior school students here, learning how to master the power of Dragon Spirits with the help of their teachers and many other classmates.

Déjà vu, he just cannot understand why everything felt so familiar and miraculous.

  • Adapted from a self-made board game created by one of the developers. She designed it at her very young age. Her teacher laughed and said that it is absolutely worthless and impossible to become a real video game. Many years later, she made this game for celebrating her graduation from college.

  • Catch, Train, Battle! The core of its game mechanic is inspired by the Pokémon series. Rest assured that our unique design will deliver a distinctive experience.

  • Tactical, challenging, and exciting real-time combat system. You need to choose the 4 skills for every Dragon Spirit in your team to create an optimized combination for battles, you must know when would be the best to use them.

  • There are plenty of side quests and challenges to discover and conquer, but be sure to enjoy your colorful school life. You can even reveal the secrets hidden among the history of Dragon Spirits.

  • 100+ beautiful and characteristic illustrations of Dragon Spirits from various talented artists.[st]
