Evaluation

Draw Steel launched into Early Access on April 8, 2026 as a virtual tabletop toolset for the MCDM tabletop RPG. The developer has maintained an exceptionally high update cadence since launch — roughly every one to two weeks — shipping substantial new features, monster implementations, UI overhauls, and bug fixes with nearly every release. Since the previous assessment on August 12, 2026, updates have continued without interruption. On August 11, 2026, the developer announced that two new adventures — The Red Road and Dark Heart of the Wood — are now available in the app for MCDM Patreon supporters, with a public sale planned after feedback is gathered. The same update introduced a new experimental user interface currently being trialed, expanded map markup tools, and retainer support through Echelon 4. On August 13, 2026, a quality-of-life patch added party member controls and new vision and map markup features. On August 19, 2026, the most recent update (version 0.0.813) shipped a fully re-engineered pop-out window system, environmental zone tools (lava, quicksand, difficult terrain), a third-party encounter importer, and further UI iteration — with the developer noting they intend to make the new UI the default system and retire the old one soon. The August 19 post also highlights a crowdfunding campaign for MCDM's next game, Crows: Fortune or Death, which includes a stretch goal to bring Crows support into this platform at $1.25M. No 1.0 release date or completion timeline has been announced. The game remains firmly in Early Access with a clearly active and ongoing development pipeline, unfinished content systems, and explicit plans for additional purchasable content.
