Evaluation

Drift.Wav launched as a free-to-play casual drifting game on October 27, 2023, and has been actively updated ever since. The developer has maintained a consistent cadence of feature patches and improvements across the roughly two-and-a-half years since release — 43 news posts in total, including 15 feature patches and 2 major content drops. The most significant recent milestone was the April 2, 2026 update (v1.9.5), which the developer described as an "entire re-write of this project" — introducing new physics, a full UI overhaul, updated leaderboards, and Unity 6 engine migration. This was followed by another feature patch on May 3, 2026 adding a first-person camera mode. Notably, the developer is also actively building a sequel, Drift.Wav II, whose Steam store page went live on July 4, 2025. The April 2026 update post explicitly states that the developer's "main focus is centered towards developing DW II," while also confirming that the original game will continue to receive patches. The first-person update (May 2026) even notes that interior work is ongoing but that deeper interior customization efforts are being directed toward DW II. This means the original Drift.Wav is in a maintenance-plus mode — still receiving meaningful updates, but the developer's primary creative energy is shifting toward the sequel. No announcement has been made that development on the original game is concluding.
