Evaluation

Driftwood launched its full 1.0 release on August 1, 2025 after roughly two years in Early Access. At launch, the developers (Leo & Jason, a two-person team) explicitly stated: "we plan to continue to support the game in post-launch updates" and acknowledged they "still feel like there is room for more content, features and polish." This is a clear statement of intent to continue developing the game beyond 1.0. Since launch, the team has delivered a consistent stream of updates. A visual overhaul and performance patch shipped on August 12, 2025; a steering physics rework on September 11, 2025; and a feature update on December 18, 2025 added "time of day" options (Day, Dusk/Dawn, and Night) with custom hand-painted skyboxes for every map in the game. The last developer communication was the December 18, 2025 update. As of today, October 1, 2026, that is approximately 9.5 months since the last post. Looking at the post-1.0 pattern, updates arrived in August, September, and December 2025 — roughly every 1–4 months. The gap from December 2025 to October 2026 is notably longer than the typical interval between post-launch updates. However, looking at the broader history including Early Access, the team has previously gone longer between major content drops (e.g., roughly 6 months between the June 2024 and December 2024 major updates). The December 2025 update was also a meaningful feature patch, not just a hotfix. The team has never made a statement suggesting support is ending, and the 1.0 launch post explicitly set up an expectation of continued support. No specific future content has been announced, and the silence since December 18, 2025 is approaching the outer edge of the historical pattern. On balance, the sustained post-launch update cadence and the explicit post-launch commitment support continued development, though the extended silence since December 2025 is worth monitoring.

About this game

You think sloths are slow? Well, Eddy is here to prove you wrong.

In Driftwood, you’ll experience high-speed downhill longboarding as an aerodynamic sloth. Drifting is the name of the game, as it’ll help you strike the perfect balance between speed and control. Drift through tight corners to avoid collision with cars and obstacles, and perform wicked tricks as you take in the beautiful landscape around you. These tricks will help you score points, which will unlock new boards that can be combined with various wheels for diverse skating styles.

  • Dream of skating as a sloth? Look no further – Driftwood lets you enjoy flowy longboarding as Eddy, who will acquire new boards, wheels, and clothes that will enhance the experience.

  • Race through beautiful scenery with relaxing music as the backdrop. Focus on vibes and tricks – Driftwood has no story campaign or obligations.

  • Immerse yourself in a contained world – Driftwood is not an open-world game; it’s a focused, minimalist experience.

  • Fun in solo or online with friends – Driftwood allows you to skate on your own, beat personal challenges and compare your runs in online leaderboards or host a lobby with up to 8 friends in the p2p multiplayer mode!

  • Travel to newly unlocked islands with your van – Driftwood has 15+ levels for you to skate and drift to your heart’s content.

We’re a small team consisting of just one artist and one programmer. We’ve set out to make a game that provides an intense downhill longboarding experience without much fluff, just a focus on drifting and flow. While there are no freestyle skateboarding tricks in Driftwood, we hope you enjoy the content in our game!
