Drive Beyond Horizons launched into Steam Early Access on March 24, 2025 and has been in active, continuous development ever since. The team has grown from 4 to 30–40 contributors and has shipped major updates throughout 2025 and 2026. In 2026, three major content drops landed in the current version: the Garage Update with Controller Support (March 24, 2026), 7 New Vehicles (June 25, 2026), and the Froggy car with an Autopilot module (August 30, 2026). The developer's most recent communication was posted on September 18, 2026 — just one day before today's assessment date. That September 18, 2026 post is highly significant. The developer officially announced a "Next Kilometer" series, a multi-episode rollout revealing details of a complete game rebuild from scratch. They confirmed the decision to restart the project in Unreal Engine 5.8+ with a redesigned physics system, terrain engine, save system, and game design. Each episode will bring players closer to the rebuilt game's eventual release. This is an unambiguous commitment to a significant future release — not just incremental updates to the current Early Access build. The 2026 roadmap (published January 2026 and updated May 2026) also still lists two undelivered updates: the "Tuning & Liberty Update" and a "New Vehicles Update." The August 30, 2026 patch note linked to this roadmap as the active plan, confirming both remain outstanding. The September 18 post supersedes all earlier communications and makes clear that development is very much ongoing, with more to come in both the current version and the rebuilt one.

You hit the road with whatever you've got. A vehicle, a few supplies, and a world that isn't waiting for you. The landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see: the terrain is unpredictable, the wilderness untamed, and every building you encounter may be an opportunity... or a problem. The world changes, the conditions evolve, and nothing guarantees that the road ahead will be any kinder than the one behind you.

BUILD YOUR PERFECT VEHICLE

Your vehicle is your only true ally. You improve it, but sometimes you push it too far. Fortunately, your garage is there to make the journey easier by storing all the discoveries you've made along the way. Now it's up to you to complete and personalize it. Choose its suspension, paint color, wheel size, and more.

AN UNPREDICTABLE ADVENTURE

In this world, you'll encounter speed bumps that can send you to the moon, zombies hungry for your fresh brain, and aliens ready to abduct you if you dare make contact. Every building may reward you with the parts you're searching for, but some might simply be empty... at best.

SOLO OR WITH FRIENDS

You can cross the desert alone with your car, a few plushies, and your favorite traffic cone. Or you can team up with your friends, with support for up to 4 players. Whether everyone drives their own vehicle or you all pile into the same one, the adventure becomes something entirely different.
