Emily is Away launched on November 20, 2015 as a free-to-play narrative adventure game. It is a self-contained story and was never designed as a live-service or content-expansion title. The developer's post-launch activity consisted of minor additions — achievements, community icons, and trading cards — all shipped by early 2016.
The developer's subsequent communications were focused on announcing and releasing standalone sequels: Emily is Away Too (announced October 2016, released May 26, 2017) and Emily is Away 3 (released April 22, 2021). The April 22, 2021 post also notes a "Longevity Update" for the original game (engine upgrade and new Mac builds), which represents the last known update to this title.
