Evaluation

EXOME is a co-op sci-fi survival shooter developed solo by RudeFrog Studios, currently in Early Access since December 16, 2022. The game has been actively developed throughout its Early Access period and is clearly still a work in progress. The most significant milestone so far was Major Update 1, which launched on August 28, 2025 — a massive overhaul that introduced a new boss fight, a procedural event system, a weather system, a difficulty system, new weapons, a companion AI (T.E.S.A.), and a fully reworked foundation of core systems. The developer described this as completing "the first major chapter of EXOME." Critically, the Major Update 1 release post explicitly confirmed that Update 2 is already in development and will introduce a new map, new weapons, new enemies, new upgrades, and additional systems. An updated roadmap was posted on November 21, 2025, providing more detail on where the game is heading. As recently as May 27, 2026, the developer posted a feature patch (v0.5.7) and reiterated that EXOME "still has a long way to go" and that they are "not done with it yet," with the stated goal of shifting to a more regular update cadence. The game has received a consistent stream of updates since launch: two identified major content drops (May 2023 and August 2025), multiple feature patches, and numerous bug fixes across 24 total posts. The developer is a solo developer, which explains the longer gaps between major updates, and has been transparent about progress and plans throughout.
Evidence
Developer posted v0.5.7 feature patch and explicitly stated 'EXOME is not abandoned,' that 'the current build is still very much the first major chapter,' and that they are 'not done with it yet,' committing to more regular updates going forward.
