Evaluation

Fast and Low officially left Early Access on April 12, 2023, after nearly four years of development. At launch, the developer explicitly stated plans to continue supporting the game post-release by adding bonus missions — and they have done exactly that. Since launch, the game has received 15 major content updates, steadily expanding the mission count from the original set to 23 hand-crafted levels, adding new weapons, and continuously improving gameplay systems. Notable milestones include Patch 2.2 (November 3, 2023) adding Mission 18, Patch 2.5 (September 10, 2024) adding Mission 21 and a new weapon, and Patch 2.7 (June 4, 2025) adding the final bonus map (Mission 23). Most recently, the massive 'Reloaded' update shipped on March 16, 2026 — the result of 8 months of development — which completely overhauled the VR interaction system, updated models and lighting across all missions, added Steam Achievements, reworked the UI, and much more. This was followed by Patch 3.1 on May 14, 2026 adding full controller support, and a hotfix on June 5, 2026. The developer noted at the end of the Patch 2.7 post (June 4, 2025) that they hoped to show off progress on a "new project" in a future patch — suggesting parallel development activity. The controller support patch on May 14, 2026 also mentions that controller support was "one of the last few things needed to check off before moving into Quest development," indicating the developer has a near-term platform expansion goal actively in progress. The game has been receiving updates consistently since its 1.0 launch, with no indication that development is winding down. The most recent communication was on June 5, 2026.
Evidence
Patch 3.1 added full controller support. Developer noted this was one of the last items before beginning Quest platform development.

About this game

Game Description

In a city under fire, it’s up to Officer Faust and Officer Lo to clean up the streets. Play as Faust or Lo, or the rest of the police force, to breach-and-clear your way through over 23 hand-crafted missions as you are tasked with neutralizing hostile threats and rescuing civilians.

“Fast and Low” is a violent and intense tactical shooter that is depicted within a colorful and cartoonish setting. One of the key features of “Fast and Low” is that it can be played both in VR, or entirely using traditional FPS mouse/keyboard controls. Whereas the VR player will be able to physically peek around corners, and blind-fire from safety, FPS players are in turn given a wider array of tools and equipment.

Players can play through the missions Solo (with an AI partner), Local Asymmetric Multiplayer (1 VR Player + 1 FPS Player on the same PC), or engage in up to 4-player Online Multiplayer Co-op.

Fast and Low features location-based damage for both hostiles and civilians. Shoot a hostile in the arm to disarm them, or target their legs to cripple them—making them far more likely to surrender!

Key Features

  • Built from the ground up for room-scale Virtual Reality.

  • Local Asymmetric Multiplayer.

  • Online Multiplayer for up to 4 players!

  • Game offers multiple forms of Free-locomotion (arm-swinging or touch-pad locomotion) and Snap/Smooth Rotation options, and accessibility options like 'Left-handed' modes and Movement Comfort Vignettes

  • Experience realistic weapon handling in Fast and Low. Manually chamber rounds, rack slides, and handle each firearm the way they're meant to be used.

  • 17 Unlockable Weapons,

  • 23 Handcrafted levels to Breach and Clear your way through

  • Randomized enemy/civilian spawns to make each deployment feel different!

  • Sandbox Mode: A game mode where you can replay unlocked missions and adjust the civilian/enemy density, modify your health pool, or experiment with slow motion in multiplayer

  • Built in Spectator Camera to share high quality footage with others!

What was the vision for Fast and Low?

The vision of Fast and Low was to create a violent, and engaging tactical shooter, set within a colorful cartoonish world. This was meant to be a difficult game akin to the old-school “SWAT” or “Rainbow Six” series. Enemies will be able to kill players quickly within one or two bursts, but likewise, players can quickly dispatch targets with well-placed headshots.

Each weapon is also carefully crafted with its own unique recoil behaviour, making each firearm feel distinct and satisfying to use.

One of the KEY features of Fast and Low is its ability to allow VR players to play locally with a buddy (via Asymmetric Multiplayer) on the same computer. I felt that there weren’t enough games currently in VR that allowed interaction between a VR player and the outside world.

Who are the developers?

Just MYSELF! Fast and Low started off as a passion project which I was working on during my spare time. From the Early Access launch in June 2019, to the Full Release in April 2023, and now the “Reloaded” update, this project has definitely come a long way in the past 8 years. Being able to work full-time on this passion project is something I never take for granted, and it’s all thanks to the amazing feedback and support from this community.

My goal is to continue making more fun VR content for people to enjoy!
