Evaluation
Serious Sam Fusion 2017 is a unified platform that brings together several existing Serious Sam games (Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, The Second Encounter, and Serious Sam 3: BFE) under a shared engine with enhanced features. Despite the "(beta)" in the title, the game is not marked as Early Access on Steam and is fully purchasable.
After an active update period through 2017 and into 2019, the last substantive patch was released on May 14, 2019 [NEWS-10], which the developer described as a stability and polish update, noting that "Fusion is at its peak right now." No further patches or feature updates have been posted since that date.
The most recent developer communication was on March 21, 2026 [NEWS-1], a 25th anniversary post for the Serious Sam franchise. While this post mentions "celebrating this anniversary throughout the year with various updates and surprises," the specific items described — a vintage sketchbook added to the game's installation folder, and Steam community items (trading cards, profile backgrounds) for TFE and TSE — are cosmetic and platform-level additions, not game content updates. Notably, these items appear to have already shipped or been imminently planned as of that post date, and no future gameplay content for Fusion specifically was announced.
The development arc is consistent with a completed platform: the major integration work (adding SS3, VR versions, engine upgrades) was done through 2017, a final stability pass came in May 2019, and subsequent communication has been franchise-level rather than Fusion-specific content development. No unreleased DLC is listed, no roadmap for future content exists, and no developer statement promises further gameplay additions to Fusion itself.
Evidence
Final patch focused on bug fixes and stability improvements. Developer states 'Fusion is at its peak right now' and describes it as 'THE way to play all supported Serious Sam games,' implying a mature, stable product rather than one still under active development.

What does it do?
Serious Sam Fusion 2017 enables a lot of cool new features, like a common workshop and cross-game mods. All of the games can be started from one application, so you can jump between playing The First Encounter level to a Serious Sam 3 level and back without exiting the game. When listing game servers, servers playing TFE, TSE, SS3 – will all appear in the same list and you can vote map across games if you want. Oh, and owners of our VR games are able to play multiplayer together with their "flat" counterparts!Since there are so many changes and exciting new features, we'll just go ahead a list them here as bullet points.
