Serious Sam II originally released in 2005 and arrived on Steam on January 31, 2012. Despite its age, Croteam has continued to invest in the game with meaningful updates over the years. A landmark update in March 2021 gave the game significant new content — dual-wielding, a new BeamGun weapon, 12 previously unreleased multiplayer maps, sprinting, rocket jumping, and more. A follow-up patch in April 2021 addressed community feedback from that release. In October 2025, the game received Steam Deck Verified status and a digital artbook DLC was released. In February 2026, Croteam added 30 Steam achievements — a frequently requested feature — along with a range of bug fixes. Achievement-related hotfixes followed on February 20 and March 5, 2026, confirming the developer was still actively responding to player feedback. On March 26, 2026, Croteam and Devolver Digital announced a new partnership with Behaviour Interactive to develop Serious Sam: Shatterverse — a new entry in the franchise, not an update to Serious Sam II. That game launched on August 31, 2026. This announcement noted that Croteam itself is focused on The Talos Principle and a new IP, but this does not constitute a statement that Serious Sam II development has concluded. Croteam has not announced any specific future content for Serious Sam II, nor have they stated that development on this title is complete. The most recent direct update to the game was the achievement hotfix on March 5, 2026.
