Evaluation

Quake (Enhanced) launched on Steam on August 19, 2021 as a modernized re-release of the classic 1996 game. Over the following year, id Software and MachineGames delivered a series of substantial updates: Update 1 (October 7, 2021) added bot support and controller improvements; Update 2 (December 2, 2021) introduced Horde Mode and the free "Honey" add-on; Update 3 (April 20, 2022) added accessibility features and new Horde Mode maps; free community add-ons including "Underdark Overbright" arrived on February 9, 2022; and Update 4 (August 18, 2022) added Threewave Capture the Flag with nine classic maps. On August 6, 2026 — to mark the game's 30th anniversary — id Software and MachineGames released "Dawn of the Machine," a brand-new episode featuring 19 all-new maps, a new soundtrack, new enemy and weapon variants, and a dedicated deathmatch map, available as a free update to all owners. This is now bundled into the game's store description alongside the other expansion content. The store description mentions "more fan-made and official mods and missions coming soon," but this language has been present since the Enhanced edition's launch in 2021 and all plausibly referenced content has since shipped. No new roadmap, announced DLC, or unreleased content listings exist. With the 30th anniversary expansion now delivered and no further commitments stated, the game's content appears complete.
