The developer civciv has maintained one of the most active update cadences seen in Early Access titles, shipping 18 major content updates across approximately 25 months — roughly one major update every 4–8 weeks. Recent major additions include a full map editor with Steam Workshop support (December 13, 2025), with subsequent feature patches expanding it to support Custom Battles (February 6, 2026) and Assault/Defence mode (March 13, 2026). The most recent communication from the developer was a bug fix on March 24, 2026. As of today, September 24, 2026, that means approximately 6 months have passed since the last update — which is at or near the outer edge of the historical cadence, but not yet clearly beyond it given the game has occasionally had quieter stretches between bursts of activity. Earlier in the update history (November 2024), the developer explicitly signaled ongoing ambitions beyond adding new nations, noting a planned shift in focus toward AI improvements, animations, artillery logic, and historical battles. The game's store description continues to describe an Early Access product covering three distinct historical conflicts, with no announcement of a 1.0 release date or any indication that development is winding down. The 6-month gap since the last post is slightly longer than typical for this developer, but does not yet represent a clear break from the established pattern given the game's full history.
