Evaluation
Ancient Warfare 3 launched into full release on January 26, 2024, after nearly seven years of Early Access development. At launch, the developer stated: "Although AW3 is leaving early access, our journey is not over yet. There are still many things that can be improved and added to the game."
Since that release, JNI Games has delivered a consistent stream of meaningful updates. Three major content drops have shipped post-launch: the 1.0 launch itself (January 26, 2024), and notably Update 1.6 on March 21, 2025, which added an entirely new custom ground vehicles system. Alongside these, the developer has released numerous feature patches — Updates 1.7 through 1.12 — arriving roughly every 2-3 months and each introducing substantial new tools, scripting nodes, editor capabilities, and gameplay systems. The most recent update, 1.12, was posted on April 23, 2026, adding multi-slot equipment support, AI behavior changes, and scripting editor improvements.
No specific future content has been announced, and no DLC has been listed separately — all content has been delivered as free updates. However, given the consistent update cadence maintained since January 2024, with the most recent post on April 23, 2026 (approximately four months before today's date of August 19, 2026), the game remains well within its established update pattern. The developer has shown no signs of winding down development.
Evidence
Update 1.12 released, adding multi-slot equipment for custom units, AI aggression improvements, script editor quality-of-life features, and custom particle editor enhancements. Most recent developer communication.
Update 1.11 released, adding experimental Vulkan graphics API support, undo/redo in the script and unit editors, a snow mask terrain tool, and grenade-throwing custom units.
