Evaluation

FINAL FANTASY XI is a long-running massively multiplayer online RPG that launched in Japan in 2002 and has been continuously operated by Square Enix ever since. The Steam edition, released on April 19, 2013, is the "Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition," which bundles the base game, five major expansion packs, three story add-on scenarios, and three battle add-ons into a single package. The game operates on a subscription model — new accounts receive 30 days of free play — and as an MMORPG, it is designed to receive ongoing updates, seasonal events, and new content indefinitely as part of its live service nature. This is not a game that was designed to reach a "finished" state; Square Enix continues to operate the servers and deliver updates to the game's active player community.

Evidence

Game is a subscription-based massively multiplayer online RPG — players pay ongoing subscription fees to access a persistent online world, which is a defining live service structure.
