Forgotten Hill The Third Axis launched on October 26, 2023 as a free-to-play point-and-click horror adventure — the first 3D entry in FM Studio's Forgotten Hill series. The developer released only the first chapter on Steam, with clear intent to add more chapters over time (consistent with how they handled previous series entries like Forgotten Hill Tales). However, on the same day as launch, FM Studio published a candid post explaining a significant complication: the Unity Runtime Fee controversy had severely shaken their confidence in Unity, the engine used to build the game. While Unity subsequently walked back some of its policy changes, FM Studio stated they "cannot feel too relieved" and could not afford to invest further effort in a tool from a company they no longer trust. They confirmed their intent to continue making more chapters — "we still have a lot of things to tell" — but said they needed to decide which game engine to migrate to before proceeding.
