Evaluation

.Forty-Five launched on March 24, 2024 as a free, open-source card/rogue-lite game developed by five students as a diploma thesis. From launch through June 2024, the team posted weekly feature updates adding new cards, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements. In September 2024, they announced a large content update in development — a new biome, new enemy type, reworked map generation, new cards, and more — though no release date was given at the time. Then, on May 4, 2026, the studio published a major development update revealing that what began as a planned content update had grown into something much larger. Working alongside a new partner studio called Crested Fox, they have been rebuilding the game from the ground up as **.Forty-Five: Reloaded** — a remake featuring a brand-new art style, two new gameplay modes (Constructed and Limited), a reworked map traversal system, a new difficulty system, and a range of new content and mechanics. The team describes it as the "best version" of the game and says a demo is planned for the second half of 2026, though no firm date is set given that both studios are unfunded student teams. The current version of .Forty-Five remains live on Steam and is celebrated by the developers as a foundation they're proud of. However, the clear next chapter for this game is .Forty-Five: Reloaded, which is actively in development and approaching a playable demo.
Evidence
Developers announced .Forty-Five: Reloaded — a full remake with new art style, two gameplay modes, new mechanics, and expanded content, developed jointly with Crested Fox. A demo is targeted for the second half of 2026.
