Freedom Defender

Freedom Defender launched on August 25, 2017 as a paid satirical tower defense game. After release, the developer shipped a handful of updates: a feature patch on September 22, 2017 adding languages and survival mode, two holiday cosmetic skins on December 26, 2017, a bug fix in January 2018, and a minor bug fix on January 31, 2019 — accompanied by a developer note confirming they were still active at that time. On September 23, 2020, the developer made the game permanently free-to-play, describing it as "free for everyone forever." This post also pointed players toward a different, newer project from the studio, signaling a shift away from Freedom Defender. There have been no developer communications of any kind since September 23, 2020. There is no unreleased DLC, no announced future content, and no ongoing update pattern. The April 1, 2018 "Battle Royale mode" announcement appears to have been an April Fools' joke and was never followed up with a real release. The game launched as a complete, finite product and has received no substantive updates in years. It is best understood as a finished game that is now available at no cost.
