Friendly Fire

Friendly Fire is a free-to-play 2D platformer that launched on July 5, 2020. The game has received several updates since launch, including a major v2 overhaul on August 28, 2020 (new level design, additional quests, new characters and soundtrack), and additional endings added in Version 2.3.0 on November 30, 2020. Importantly, on May 3, 2021, the developer posted with Version 2.4.0 and explicitly stated: "This might be the last update for our little indie game." This was a direct signal that development was winding down. Despite this, the developer continued to ship maintenance and compatibility updates: Version 2.6.0 on November 17, 2022 added quality-of-life options and Steam overlay support, and Version 2.8.0 on January 26, 2024 added Steam Deck support and rendering improvements, followed by a bug fix patch (Version 2.8.1) on January 30, 2024. The post-2021 updates are purely technical — platform compatibility, rendering options, and bug fixes — with no new story content, levels, or endings. The developer's May 2021 statement that the update was likely the last holds up: the game's content has been complete since then, with subsequent patches focused solely on keeping the game running well on modern hardware. The only DLC, the official soundtrack, was released on November 24, 2022. There are no announced future updates, no unreleased DLC, and no roadmap suggesting additional content. The last developer communication was the bug fix patch on January 30, 2024.
