Evaluation

Godslayer Arena is in active Early Access development by solo developer Hippo Rider Games. Since the previous evaluation, the developer has delivered another major content update — v0.9 "Rise of the Godborne" (July 24, 2026) — which introduced 14 new boss enemies, 30 new neutral spells, a reworked enemy spawning system, and a new combat mechanic. This was followed by two balancing and bug-fix patches on July 30 and July 31, 2026, showing the developer is actively supporting the release. The roadmap published on April 20, 2026 has been followed closely: v0.7 (Fortune Spells), v0.8 (Champion's Favors), and v0.9 (Rise of the Godborne) have all shipped as described. That same roadmap still lists three remaining milestones: v0.10 (Resonance System overhaul), v0.11 (a third playable Godslayer character), and v1.0 (Endless mode and full release with a reworked tutorial). The developer has not announced a completion date for any of these, but the consistent delivery of prior milestones makes these commitments credible. Anyone considering this game should be aware it remains unfinished by design, with substantial planned content still to come before the developer considers it a full release.

About this game

Godslayer Arena is a roguelike fusion of autobattlers and action-rpgs. The core gameplay loop revolves around drafting spells to synergize with each other, and figuring out where they should be placed.

You have no control once combat begins, and your survival will depend on the strength of the build you have drafted.

At its core, Godslayer Arena is a strategy game focusing on complex and deep spell interactions. Each run will test your understanding of the game's core systems.

Break the game. Min max your build. Become overpowered.

Before you begin each battle, you’ll be offered a selection of different spells that you can purchase through the spell shop. You’ll then be offered the choice of being able to refresh your shop for more spells, or to gain experience. The more experience you gain the higher your shop level will be, which in turn offers you a better chance of finder higher tier spells.

Each spell comes with a set of “traits”, which grant powerful effects if you equip enough unique spells of the same trait. Holding three of a kind will upgrade your spells to stronger versions of themselves.

Spells are cast from left to right and interact with each other in various ways, meaning the position of your spells matters a lot. For example, certain spells may fire damaging projectiles, and other support type spells can increase the amount of projectiles fired by those spells if you choose to place them next to each other. There are lots of different spell interactions which include increasing area of effect, granting bonus spellpower, increasing/lowering mana costs, autocasting/combo casting spells, bonuses to basic attacks and more.

Mastery cards further enhance your build by offering powerful spells unique to the class that you play as. These cards are only offered once per run and must be chosen carefully. Items provide unique build defining effects, and gems provided your spells powerful modifications.
