Grandpa High on Retro launched on February 6, 2025 and has received consistent developer attention since. The 1st Free DLC shipped on November 4, 2025. A major overhaul patch in April 2026 replaced AI voices with real voice actors, added new weapons, drivable vehicles, a dynamic weather system, and overhauled animations — reflecting substantial ongoing investment in the game. The developer also grew the team from a solo developer to five developers and 23 voice actors. The 2nd Free DLC — in which Grandpa travels to the future in search of the Epstein Files — was announced in December 2025, given an official release date of September 3, 2026 in February 2026, and has been in active development since. However, on August 28, 2026 (just two days before today's date), the developer posted an update confirming the September 3 date will not be met. The reason given is a technical problem: integrating the new DLC content caused unexpected performance degradation in the existing base game and 1st Free DLC content. The developer stated they will not ship an update that makes the game run worse, and declined to give a replacement date until the issue is fixed. The content is not cancelled — the developer described the new visuals as looking exactly as intended and framed the delay purely as a performance engineering problem. But there is currently no confirmed release window. The developer's track record shows this kind of delay has happened before (the 1st Free DLC was also delayed), and they have consistently followed through. The store description also confirms the 2nd Free DLC is in development, and the developer has previously expressed intent to continue releasing free DLC beyond it.
